Interested in starting Aikido? This class is designed to introduce you to Aikido practice. Aikido classes, which start with stretching and warm up, use paired technique practice. Students use pins, locks and throws to disarm or mitigate attacks. Students learn how to receive these techniques by developing skills for rolling and falling safely (receiving techniques). Classes are designed to be inclusive and welcoming for all adults. Please wear comfortable clothing; long pants are recommended.
Aikido is a harmonious, noncompetitive yet - at the highest levels - effective martial art. The practice of Aikido emphasizes groundedness, awareness, connection, balance, and resilience. The path of Aikido aims for the transformation of habitual self-defense patterns into flexibility of adopting to ever changing circumstances. Aikido classes begin with warm-up and stretching. Paired technique practice simultaneously develops skills in throws, pins, and locks as well as falls, rolls and ways of receiving techniques.
